my place in line.

i've never been first,
and that is fine.
i've learned through the years,
my place in line.

my place in line,
is standing behind,
the girl with a life
i thought was better than mine.

along come the years
that help pass the time,
to give your life meaning,
and help you to find....

a life of your own,
to establish your home.
to raise happy children,
and watch them grow old.

to rock in the chair,
next to your grumpy old soul,
you can't imagine life without,
he, who makes your heart whole....

and the sun will rise
a little brighter each morning
almost as if,
it's to tell you a story....

of how one day you felt
like you were nothing at all,
and to look at yourself,
now, you're standing tall.

you did it yourself,
and you're doing just fine....
even if you're standing,
at the end of the line...

Very true!! I felt that way all my life, but not now. I think, the more someone endures, the stronger they are....that's a fact. Look at Michelle!!! LOL

Love it all except the Grumpy old soul part. Have a feeling that's going to be me. haha

haha. i refer to him as "grumpy old soul" because he isn't the most outgoing person.... sober.... after a few drinks, he is DEFINITELY the life of the party and he'll be your best friend.... he just isn't the most inviting person to be around if he doesn't know you.... he can be negative with the best of them, but boy can he be positive too.... he's him. grumpy and all. i take him as-is.... ooo! i just got all warm and fuzzy. love that man.... wouldn't have it any other way.... most of the time. ;)

This is lovely. Elegant really. And sadly, so very true for so many.

Did you write this yourself? Not to say you're not capable of such an amazing work of art, but wow. This is so true in many ways. It's weird, I feel like crying.

@sarahjayne smythe. thank you! it is very sadly true for many....

@Ally. yes, i did write this. yesterday morning. i write the piece whenever it's posted unless it says "originally written on" and then the date... which in that case, i pulled it from an old journal or from my computer's iwork. =) thank you. don't cry. it's a good thing to realize where you are in life.... and it doesn't always have to be first or on top.... it's about being comfy right where you are....
